Here’s how to make the transition easier. Get the new school year off to a super start with these beginning of the year suggestions.

• Be sure that your child gets 8-10 hours of sleep each night.

• Prepare a nourishing breakfast. Suggestions include milk, fruit, granola and honey, peanut butter and toast, open-faced grilled cheese sandwich, bagel and cream cheese.
  

• Avoid wake-up battles: a clock radio will wake your child to his favorite music.
  

• Make sure your youngster knows her full name, address and phone number. Include a tag with this information in her lunchbox.
  

• Put a picture of the family in your child’s jacket pocket. It will be a reminder that home is waiting for her at the end of the day.
  

• Visit our Bear library and look for children’s books about starting school. Perfect choices are First Day Jitters and The Kissing Hand. Both are available in paperback.
  

• Help your youngster look forward to school. Talk about it as a friendly place and answer all questions in a positive, reassuring way.
